You can visit North East Skills at any time. With so much to see we offer special staggered slots for big groups so everyone gets a chance to try the interactive features. We recommend visiting the event for approximately two hours.

What Happened in 2008?

Climb to the top of your career
The Army offers a range of different career paths and you can find out how to get to the top of your career by scaling the climbing wall or try the inflatable assault course. There will be soldiers on hand to answer your careers questions from joining the technical and logistical corps to medical and dental. You can also meet the Royal Navy and Royal Marines at the North East Skills.



Plan a new town
Join Asset Skills and plan a new town with their interactive My Sims game. Finding solutions to property, housing, cleaning and facility management industries.

A career in horseracing?
Saddle up and prepare for the ride of your life with Careers in Racing and find out about a career with in the horseracing industry. Try the mechanical horse and see if you have what it takes to get to the finishing post.



On your marks
The future of transport needs to be cleaner and greener and at the Centre for Process Innovation stand you can find out about innovative products and services. You will also have a chance to race a hydrogen powered fuel cell car and discover how hydrogen can be made using renewable technologies.



Industry action
The UK's most innovative and world class businesses are looking for the next generation of scientists, engineers and designers, technicians and industry leaders. Most stuff people use in their everyday lives is made by the chemical, nuclear, oil and gas, petroleum and polymer industries including the prizes you could win when you visit the Cogent Sector Skills stand. Try the Periodic Table quiz, work out the 3d molecule demonstration and talk to the team.

Reality Television
Would you do anything to be on TV? Come along and meet Gateshead College’s media team and get your face on their huge bluescreen reading the news or starring in a film. Or if you want to be the next Lewis Hamilton show off how fast you are on their automotive stand and test your skills in a speed competition.



Do you worry about debt?
You can test your financial skills with the Money Tree Game and Money for Life interactive software when you visit the National Skills Academy Financial Services stand. Learning how to manage your money is one of the most important skills for your future.

Stress buster
Visit the New College Durham stand and you can enjoy a pampering session with their hair and beauty students or enjoy their catering demonstrations and cook up a storm. You can also build your future as students showcase their construction skills.

Newcastle College will also be offering visitors the chance to enjoy a hand massage and or visit the nail bar. On their stand there will be a competition and health and care activities.



Blow your top
You can experiment with science on the NorthEast Process Industry Cluster stand . There will be short demonstrations and hands-on opportunities to enthuse visitors about the region’s chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and biofuel industries.

Locked up
Visit the HM Prison Service stand and you could find yourself behind bars! There will be a mock cell so you can sample what life is really like for people in prison. You can talk to staff about the various career options available and the benefits offered.

Metal Detector
Find out all about the aluminium industry with Rio Tinto Alcan. On their stand you can talk to the experts and try their Jobs 4U quiz to find the treasure of a perfect career.

Or is it a life on the ocean waves for you?
Visit the Ship Safe stand and find out about sponsored university degrees and try a navigating a ship simulator.

Performances

Exciting performances will keep you entertained over the two days.  

Gateshead College
Spectator showcase of some of the regions top talent in dance provided by elite academy Dance City. Modern and exciting the showcase will incorporate a wide variety of styles and tempos.

Newcastle College

• Dance show
• Acoustic music performance
• Live audience participation photo shoot
• Fitness tests

New College Durham
New College Durham students from the National Diploma in Performing Arts course will perform a selection of solo and ensemble songs and routines from well-known musicals.

Sage Academy of Performing Arts Ltd
Full time students from the Sage Academy will be performing a variety of high energy routines from hip hop to Musical Theatre.

South Tyneside College
A fashion show style performance highlighting the skills of Beauty Students. Using a variety of techniques and products including body paint, shimmer dust and conventional make-up, models show off student designs in a fashion show style performance.
